Pittsburgh is experiencing it's coldest weather in over 10 years right now with everybody waking up to negative temperatures today, Right now it's currently -6 and that's Fahrenheit, in Celsius that's a cold -21.

Then once you factor in the Wind Chill it's going to feel like -18 Fahrenheit ( -28 Celsius ). Frostbite can occur within 5 - 10 minutes for any exposed skin and the roads around our house are like glass. Most schools are canceled and even our dogs and cat are staying indoors on their own accord, they know it's way to cold to be outside.

Hopefully this weather won't last too long, right now I can't drive down my driveway to get anywhere, it's a fairly steep driveway with a ravine on the other side of the road at the bottom, last Friday I started sliding backwards while trying to drive up the driveway and I don't want to experience anything like that ever again.

Gravatar Image1 - It's snuggle time!

Gravatar Image2 - That sounds like pretty chilly. I am originally from Sweden, but the part I lived in (right outside Stockholm) was not too cold. The winter of 1987 was pretty cold, though. I know that one weekend night in January, it was -27 C (-17 F) and I slept in a tent. I was 17 years old and out on training with the Army, and my parents were sitting at home, hearing on TV about "record lows" and seeing the mercury drop lower and lower. I did survive, though. Pretty cool (pun inteded) place!

Gravatar Image3 - I'm originally from Boston and I started to laugh the first time I stepped out into -38 C degree weather in Canada because I was thinking, "You guys live in this environment?" The trouble is, it was so cold on my throat when I inhaled I coughed instead of laughed.

I don't know who is laughing now, since I live in Calgary now.

I must have acclimatized a bit since I don't stop riding my bike (on clear road days) until it is below -20 C.

Gravatar Image4 - And to think that I was annoyed that it will be 43 degrees at 9PM when I play tennis tonight here in Tallahassee.

You know that unless you're part of the witness protection program, you don't have to live up there.

Gravatar Image5 - A couple of films you should see .... 'Day After Tomorrow' and 'An Inconvenient Truth'.
